Looking
at ages by generation, most of the Boomers and the Generation X seem to have
had their luckiest season of life on earth. These are probably our grandparents
and some even our parents who had it rough through schooling back in the
80’s,70’ 60’s & 40’s. Tales are told of some of these people walking to the
formal education centers on bare feet, chewing sugarcane and wild berries for
lunch and wearing patched pairs of shorts to school.
This
is not the kind of a lifestyle one would wish to go through as they journey to
a successful life. But surprisingly, these people are the current big shots in
most organizations holding high profiled positions. You would be so shocked
upon realizing that the qualification levels for employment earlier in the
years was owning a form 4 certificate or having studied up to form 6.
Most
of the Gen Zs and millennials would then be questioning themselves on where the
rain might have started beating them. This comes ahead of making thousands of
job applications that seem promising not until you miss out on the opportunity.
You then wonder what employers in the current era are looking for. A daunting
situation that has seen many young graduates unknowingly land into depression
and states of mental unwellness.
Just
to instill a ray of hope to fellow graduates and country men, we are living in
a totally different world with different expectations. The professional world
has dynamically evolved to suit special interests especially with technological
disruption that occurs every other day. We are headed to a season where
creating own opportunities will save a great deal.
Nothing
is as frustrating as receiving a regret note from an interview. This feels more
than a heartbreak having toiled burning the midnight oil to ensure you achieve
academic excellence. Most young people would always want to get to the peak on
the go but this might take a while, Dream Big and start small.
The
little hustles and entrepreneurship activities that might not seem to match
your job expectations will elevate you into the star you want to become.
For
the graduating class of 2023, even as we delve into the world of opportunities,
let’s keep our faith high having fought a good fight and finished the race.
There is in store for us the crown of righteousness, which the Lord will award
us.
Remember,
education is not preparation for life, Education is life itself.
