Daystar University hosts 3rd Annual Conference

Prof. Ayiro further challenged graduate students to read widely, saying that a person who reads widely can easily identify an area of study and craft an appropriate research topic.

Speaking on behalf of the DVC- ARSA, Prof. Samuel Muriithi, the Director of Academic Affairs called on scholars to simplify information so that it can make sense to students.

The University Chaplain, Rev. Miano Weche called on scholars to endeavor to make their knowledge accessible.

The colloquium is one on the many attempts to uplift Daystar University’s capacity for postgraduate study and research. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Laban Ayiro revealed his wish to make Daystar University a graduate University with great emphasis in research and scholarship.

Daystar University and the University of Johannesburg co-hosted the 3rd annual conference from 28th to 29th September 2023 in Daystar, Nairobi Campus.

The conference came shortly after the conclusion of the UN Climate change Conference 2022 (COP27), which brought together scholars and practitioners from around the world to do a post review of the past UN Climate change Conference 2022 (COP27).

The 3rd annual conference created an opportunity for academicians, policy makers, practitioners, and other stakeholders to discuss the contributions of Africa to addressing climate change in view of the post- COP 27.

The concurrence themes and sub- themes of the 3rd annual conference included: Eco-Theology and Climate Justice, Education for Sustainable Development, SDGs and Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Decarbonization, Geopolitics and Diplomacy, Nexus between Conflict, Gender, and Climate Change, among others. The conference also involved discussions on the impact of climate change on African economies and the role of policies in addressing diversified issues affecting the

continent, such as, the impact of technological advancements on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Africa, among other issues.

The keynote speakers at the 3rd annual conference included: The Daystar University Deputy Vice- Chancellor-Academics, Research and Students Affairs (DVC-ARSA), Prof Faith Nguru; the Director General of the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), Mr. Mamo Boru Mamo (EBS) - represented by the Deputy Director Programmes and Partnerships (NEMA), Dr Anne Nyatichi; the Director of Programs, All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC), Rev Dr. Lesmore Gibson Ezekiel; Prof. Dominiques Emmanuel Uwizeyimana, a full Professor, School of Public Management, Governance and Public Policy (SPMGPP) at the University of Johannesburg; and Dr. Daniel Muvengi, a seasoned international development expert and leader with over 30 years of experience cutting across the Africa continent and beyond. Among the delegates was a Daystar University Alumni Dr. Eric Blanco who is a lecturer at the School of Management, Governance and Public Policy at the University of Johannesburg.

In November 2023, Daystar University will co-host yet another conference on International Child Protection.

It is the dream of the Daystar University Vice-Chancellor to make Daystar University a research stronghold.
