The Daystar University Legal Department has existed since October 2019.

Starting with one staff only, the Legal Manager, the Legal department has since added the position of its Legal Research Assistant to its establishment and appointed Mr. Telvin Ambani.

The vision of the department is to be a Christ-centered provider of legal services in university education. Our mission is to be the legal and moral conscience of the University for the benefit of its adherence to the rule of law.

In the 2022-23 year, the Legal department has reviewed and advised on numerous partnerships, collaborations and contracts for the University in conjunction with various Directorates and Schools leading specific collaborations. both locally and internationally Institutions collaborating with Daystar University span the global terraine, involving institutions from Africa (Burundi), UK, USA, and Finland.

The Department continuously offers legal advice to various University departments as need arises. It has also continued to participate in standing and ad hoc committees and boards to offer legal insight and support. This year, particularly with the publication of the 2023 University Regulations, the Legal Department’s participation has deepened its advice on governance matters and records management. Additionally, the management of the University’s real estate and Intellectual Property has been in review, with a close eye from the department. In September 2023, the University was granted the Trademark Certificate for the University Flag.

The Department is keen to mentor students, and continues to facilitate Work Study and Internships for Daystar Law students each semester, allowing the department to benefit from and influence budding legal minds with practical and professional experience. In July this year, the Legal Manager addressed Student Leaders on the subject of Authority and Leadership in both the biblical and legal context during the annual Student Leaders’ Retreat.
